Kingsmead College, visit on 20-10-2009
Dearest Marina, Wow, what a way to begin the morning! Thank you so much for your wonderful words of encouragement. Our school is very special as we make it our duty to instil humbleness and a love and appreciation for their environment. We want them to question the world in which they live in and be grateful for all their blessings. I came across Lory Park on the internet and I am so delighted that we took a chance to visit your park. We, both girls and teachers, learned so much about the animals and I applaud you for running such a worthwhile project. The park is beautiful kept and clearly the animals are loved and cared for. The girls were so moved by the animals and I am truly hoping that we will have some parents that will assist you in your fund raising. George is an exceptional guide. He had so much patience with the girls and answered each question sensitively. I was so impressed how he managed to challenge the girls to think and did not simply regurgitate information. He is truly one in a million. You will certainly be seeing us in the near future and thank you once again for your hospitality. Kind regards,Anneline

Thank You
Hello to everyone at Lory Park. On behalf of the 9th Benoni Bambanani Cub Scouts, we would like to say a big thank you for such a beautiful and well kept park. We enjoyed our visit tremendously and interacted with a few of the animals (fed the owls, stroked the parakeets and even had a chance to touch the caracal). We will certainly promote your park and hopefully we will be back soon for another visit.Keep up the good work. Akela Joy

Fantastic Day
I spent a day at your beautiful park & I am truly impressed with the love & care your animals receive! It made me wish that other parks would spend the time & attention on their animals as you clearly have. They have lovely enclosures & their diets seem so well managed! What a wonderful place! I have recommended to all my friends & family to give you a well deserved visit!!!

How much love and attention you put into your bird is questionable. You cannot confess that since December 2008 and your recent visit, you never saw the state of her wings, perhaps if the bird is locked up in a cage at all times, it could happen. When I attended to your bird the first time, I told you that the diet is too fatty and that’s why the nail cutting can lead to bleeding. Your claim of excessive blood loss is exaggerated. When any bird comes in it must be restrained, in order to work on it, this you will see at any other vet you may go to. There is no charge here for nail and wing clipping and never was, you pay for your entrance only. I were never responsible for the state of your bird’s wings, only you will know where she was, so don’t come and through your guilty conscience at my front door. This is the first complaint in 10 years and we are ever so grateful for not having to deal with your aggressive behaviour again. I have never met anybody with so little knowledge about birds. Your issues should be dealt with in “Anger Management “classes

Bad Eddie
I've taken my 2 year old African Grey Parrot to have her wings clipped twice now at Lory Park, the first time, April 2008 the girls did it. The last time was in December 2008 when the owner Eddie clipped her wings... Being the owner of my parrot, I do not pin my baby down and spread her wings out, neither do I clip her wings, for obvious reasons. I took her back 2 days ago for a clipping and specifically asked one of the girls to do it since I trust they are more gentle than Eddie, since the last time he filed her claws raw and she lost a lot of blood. Anyway the girls were appalled by the state of her one wing, (so was I when I saw it, although I've never seen her spread out before) and they sort the 'advice' of Eddie, strangely enough. When I was called in to fill me in, he was terribly embarrassed because he was the one responsible for the 'hack job'. He became so defensive and denied having clipped her wings, to make matters worse he admitted to remembering my calling him up after he filed her claws raw, strangely enough, he could not remember clipping her wings! Eddie, I can go on about my experience this week, thank heavens you did not touch my bird again. You obviously do not know what you are doing! You should leave it to your Volunteers, they are more skilled, compassionate and definitely more professional in their behaviour towards the public, who might I add, pay for the services rendered. Thank you to the volunteers who are always so kind and understanding. I walked out in tears, my bird was traumatised but I would rather go to a proper vet from now on and pay a few rands more than be treated so badly by the 'management' of Lory Park Zoo. It does not mean that since you have many animals caged up in a building with your name on it, that it gives anyone the right to ill treat and hurt owners and animals , both physically and emotionally. I love my bird to the extent that it sounds wrong calling her 'a bird', she is my baby. I do not own a zoo but it does not mean that we do not have feelings nor dignity.
